Wurst, real name Thomas Neuwirth, is the well-known 'bearded woman,' who won the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. She was meant to attend the Israeli event after that event, but cancelled at the last moment.
After her 2014 victory, Wurst credited Israeli transgender singer Dana International, who won the 1998 Eurovision, as her inspiration. The two appeared together in London two months ago at an event marking the Eurovision's sixtieth year.
Wurst has become a world-wide LGBT icon since winning the Eurovision. She recently released her first album of songs and is currently hosting the 21015 Eurovision contest.
