Habayit Hayehudi MK Ayelet Shaked, soon to be appointed justice minister, has been assigned a bodyguard in the wake of death threats.

Shaked complained that she has received threats over the phone and on Facebook, and that doctored pictures of her in a Nazi uniform wearing a swastika armband have been posted to the social media site.

As a result, Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein and Yosef Griff, commander of the Knesset Guard, decided to provide the MK with a bodyguard until further notice.

Naftali Bennett, the chairman of Habayit Hayehudi, “called on everyone to calm the discussion and rise above chauvinist images and to act responsibly. We will all be ministers on the behalf of the entire Israeli public,” he said.

“In coming days the new government will be presented. The political commentators are talking about a narrow government on one hand and about unity on the other. Even a government of 61 [Knesset members] can be a unity government, if we will be united in acting for the good of all of Israel,” said Bennett.

Shaked has been outspoken about the need to curtail the power of the Supreme Court and punish left-wing non-profit organizations.
