Two mortar shells fired from Syria wounded two UN peacekeepers in the Golan Heights on Monday. The incident appeared to be errant fire from the Syrian civil war.

The shells hit a UNDOF base and a grove in Ein Zivan, an Israeli kibbutz.

The UNDOF peacekeepers received medical treatment in the northern Israeli town of Safed. One sustained moderate injuries from shrapnel while the other was lightly wounded.

Fighting between forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad and rebels trying to topple him has occasionally spilled over to the Golan.

The last incident of stray mortar fire took place on Tuesday. No injuries were reported.
