Twitter-savvy Palestinians are expressing solidarity with demonstrators in Ferguson, Missouri, who are protesting a grand jury decision not to indict the white police officer who killed unarmed black teenager Michael Brown in an August 9 shooting.

"The Palestinian people know what mean to be shot while unarmed because of your ethnicity," reads a sign tweeted by someone with the Twitter handle Levi Da Great.

Others drew a comparison with powerful images, like Mohammad Tuqan, who tweeted a photo of Israeli soldiers captioned "Palestine" above one of U.S. police officers in riot gear labeled "Ferguson."

Another comparison photo showed Brown's father mourning his son above a similar image that appeared to show a distraught Arab man also in the throes of mourning, with the caption "Different places, same pain !!"

Depending on how you look at it, linking the Palestinian conflict with Ferguson by use of the hashtag #palestine2ferguson can be seen as a way for Palestinian activists to express support for protesters they consider to be in a similar situation or exploiting surface similarities in an attempt to regain some of the media attention lost when the summer's Gaza war ended.

Other tweets, meanwhile, made an effort to explain the link between Ferguson protesters and Palestinian activists.

The oppressed always stand together, nomatter what race. We will resist because we deserve to exist. #palestine2ferguson #Humanity
