The M-16 rifle of a Border Police officer arrested last week has been identified by police forensics as the weapon that killed a Palestinian teenager in May.

The forensics report, which determined that bullet fragments found in the teenager's body came from the suspect's gun, was made public Wednesday, when the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court partially lifted a gag order on the case.

The name and identifying details of the Border Police officer, who was arrested last week over the shooting of Nadim Nuwara, are the only elements of the case that remain barred from publication. Nuwara was one of two Palestinian teens killed during a Nakba Day protest in the West Bank town of Beitunia on May 15.

In its hearing Wednesday, the court extended the suspect's remand until Sunday, when he is expected to be charged with manslaughter, a lesser offense than the murder charge he was earlier thought to be facing.

The commander of the unnamed Border Police officer was also arrested, on suspicion of covering up the shooting, but has since been released.

Police said they have wiretaps recording the commander linking the suspect to the shooting, during a conversation with a third party.

Police are also attempting to link the suspect to the death of another Palestinian at the protest and the wounding of another, but the court said evidence for the other two allegations was thin.
