The Israel Defense Forces are investigating a Friday morning explosion in the Golan Heights, in particular whether it stemmed from an intentional attack on Israel, a stray shell from the 3 1/2-year-old Syrian civil war, or a previously undetonated device.

An IDF patrol was traveling near the Syrian border when the blast occurred. No one was reported injured, and no damage was done.

Ten days ago, the IDF shot a Syrian Sukhoi 24 fighter jet out of the sky after it infiltrated Israeli territory.

The jet was downed over the Syrian side of the Quneitra border, after it had flown 800 meters west of the border into Israel and turned around.
