The 2013-14 IFL regular season came to a close this past week, after four weekend games.

The Jerusalem Lions clinched third place with a 32-18 victory over the Jerusalem Kings and the Judean Rebels finished an undefeated regular season with a 55-44 victory over the Tel Aviv Pioneers, with both teams resting some key players. The Haifa Underdogs blew out the Northern Stars 73-6 to clinch the final playoff spot, and the Petah Tikva Troopers beat the Be’er Sheva Black Swarm 60-6 in the finale on Saturday night.

The Lions dominated the first half, taking a 16-0 lead. Trailing 32-12 at the end of the third, the Kings’ Zack Summy found Guerrero for a 45-yard catch-and-run, but another missed conversion kept the score at 32-18. The Kings forced a turnover-on-downs but they couldn’t convert on 1st-and-goal, and the hoped-for comeback fizzled.

For the victorious Lions, Chaim Schiff finished 7/22 for 38 yards, with one touchdown and 2 picks, as he overthrew wide open receivers all night long. Tiran Koren led the Lions with 36 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Shmuel Halpern led the Big Blue receiving corps with 4 catches for 29 yards.

Yoni Cooper led a monstrous Lions defensive performance with 7 tackles, 3 sacks, and a pick-6. Jerome Wojtalik had a great night returning kicks as he returned 3 kicks for a total of 123 yards and a touchdown.

For the Kings, Zack Summy finished 9/22 for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns. Paul Guerrero caught both of the TDs and 91 yards. Ofir Levi led the purple ground attack with 67 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Ami Notis lead the royal defenders with 10 tackles and an interception, while Paul Guerrero had 8 tackles and a fumble recovery.

The Lions clinched the #3 seed and were to face the #6 seed Haifa Underdogs in the wild-card round last night.
