Former Chief Investigator in Lieberman Case to Probe Harpaz Affair

Last week, Israel's AG Yehuda Weinstein decided to launch a criminal investigation into the affair, which involved a forged document that sought to thwart the candidacy of Maj. Gen. Yoav Galant as Israel's next chief of staff.

Chief Superintendent Yoram Na'man from Israel Police's National Fraud Unit will head a special investigations team to probe the Boaz Harpaz affair – an affair involving a forged document that sought to thwart the candidacy of Maj. Gen. Yoav Galant as the next chief of staff.

Na'man was the chief inverstigator in the fraud case involving former Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.

Alongside Na'man, the investigating team will also include Chief Superintendent Nimrod Daniel, who has in the past investigated other high-profile cases. Those included Dudu Topaz, the TV star who committed suicide in 2009, the Israeli judge who was accused of beating his children and Erez Efrati, the ex-bodyguard of IDF chief of staff who was indicted in a sex assault case.

Last week, Israel's AG Yehuda Weinstein decided to launch a criminal investigation into the Harpaz affair, which will also look into the consuct of former Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi and his assistant at the time, Col. Erez Weiner.
