Settlers: Extending Settlement Freeze Would Undermine Netanyahu's Credibility
Yesha Council head: Settlement freeze would bring the prime minister into a political slaughterhouse.
The Yesha Council of West Bank settlements was outraged Monday by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's proposal to extend the settlement moratorium if the Palestinians recognize Israel as a Jewish state.
Danny Dayan, the council's head, condemned Netanyahu's offer and defended the settlement movement.
"Under no circumstances can Israel extend the settlement freeze. The settlement movement is the power source of Israel and it cannot be turned into Abbas's hostage," he said.
"Extending the settlement freeze is a trap which would bring Netanyahu into a political slaughterhouse and his credibility would be completely undermined."
