There may be an Israeli connection in the affair of Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov, who was fired this week by Russian president Dmitry Medvedev and will most likely face corruption charges connected to his and his wife's real estate dealings. Luzhkov's wife, Yelena Baturina, has become the richest woman in Russia, with a fortune of over $2 billion.

Russian-Jewish billionaire and real estate mogul Shalva Chigirinsky, one of Baturina's business partners, was forced to leave Russia and fled to London. But after being investigated in Britain, Chigirinsky fled to Israel last year.

Chigirinsky was also a business partner of Roman Abramovich.
