Gaza militants fired a Qassam rocket into Israel, Army Radio reported on Saturday, adding that the projectile exploded in an open field in the western Negev. No injuries were reported.

The attack comes amid attempts to relaunch direct peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority in Washington, a move to which Hamas, the Islamist group which controls the Gaza Strip, strongly objects.

On Tuesday, four Israelis were killed when unknown assailants opened fire at a vehicle they were traveling in near the West Bank city of Hebron.

The following night, two Israelis were wounded in a similar shooting attack at the Rimonim Junction near the West Bank city of Ramallah.

The Israel Defense Forces on Thursday warned of a possible wave of attacks as Hamas militants try to sabotage Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, with Brig. Gen Nitzan Alon telling Army Radio that "there may be more attacks," adding that the "capability exists on the ground."

Alon said the military had received no specific intelligence about the attacks on Tuesday and Wednesday – but that the army had expected attempts to disrupt the talks.

"We knew opposition elements like Hamas would try to carry out attacks to try and disrupt the diplomatic process," Alon said.

Hamas on Thursday vowed more violence: "Operations of resistance will continue and the measures by the occupation and Fatah will not block them," said Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri.
