The American heavy metal band Metallica will perform at Ramat Gan Stadium on May 22, the event's Israeli promoter confirmed Saturday.

The band, which has a wide worldwide following, will visit Israel as part of a tour to promote its ninth studio album, "Death Magnetic," released in 2008.

The album generally won positive reviews from critics, who compared it favorably to the group's earliest efforts.

This will be Metallica's third visit to the country; they appeared at the Amphi Park in Rishon Letzion in 1999 and Tel Aviv's Yarkon Park six years earlier.
