Israeli security forces operating in the southern West Bank arrested the head of Hamas' military wing in Tul Karm late Monday night.

Mohammed Harwish was apprehended by Israeli forces in the village of Tzurif, which is situated in the southern Hebron hills.

Harwish has been wanted by Israel for his alleged involvement in the Passover suicide bombing of the Park Hotel in Netanya in 2002. He was imprisoned in a Palestinian jail until he was released by authorities in 2006.

Israel set its sights on Harwish after it arrested the previous leading Hamas terrorist in the area, Omar Jabber.

The Israeli forces, which comprised the elite Duvdevan undercover unit, the Yamam commando force, and the Shin Bet security service, also arrested Adnan Samara, a Hamas operative who resumed his activities on behalf of the organization following his release from an Israeli jail last year.

Both men were based in the Tul Karm refugee camp and sought refuge in the Hebron Hills area for fear of arrest.
