German neo-Nazi Lawyer Fined for Lauding September 11 Attacks
Mainz, Germany - A notorious right-wing lawyer in Germany was fined 7,200 euros Monday by a civil court in Mainz for remarks praising the September 11 terrorist attacks.
The court found Horst Mahler of Germany's neo-Nazi NPD party guilty of making remarks that approve of murder and endanger civil aviation.
Mahler, 66, expressed his "respect" for the attacks in comments on television within days of the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon in the United States. The civil court said freedom of opinion is restricted when it endangers public peace.
The lawyer has a notorious political background because in the 1970s he was a sympathizer of the left-wing urban terrorist group the Red Army Faction, only later to go on to espouse the right-wing political views of the NPD party.
