IDF Soldier Stabbed in Stomach in Northern Israel

Police arrest 16-year-old youth on suspicion of stabbing the soldier, a resident of the Druze village of Kisra, who entered an olive grove while waiting to hitchhike home.

An Israel Defense Forces soldier was stabbed in his stomach on Thursday near the northern Israeli city of Carmiel.

According to an initial investigation by the police, the soldier was hitchhiking with a friend, also a soldier, at an intersection near Carmiel. The two soldiers were reportedly trying to get back to their homes at the Druze village of Kisra from their military base.

At one point, the soldier went into a nearby olive grove to relieve himself and shortly afterward he started shouting for help. His friend arrived at the scene and found him stabbed in his stomach and immediately called rescue services.

The soldier was found in moderate condition and then transferred to a hospital in Nehariya. The Carmiel police opened an investigation following the incident, and arrested a 16-year-old youth, a resident of one of the villages in the area. Police are looking for an additional suspect that has already been identified.
