A loud explosion was heard Friday after in downtown Jerusalem, close to the start of the Jewish Sabbath.
According to initial reports, people have been injured in the blast, which appears to have been caused by a suicide bomber. A police spokesman described the attack as "serious" and said that many people had been injured.
Itim reported that dozens of people were injured in the blast, which occurred next to the number 23 bus stop close to the Mahane Yehuda market, on one the city's main roads, Jaffa Street.
Emergency services are currently evacuating the injured to the city's hospitals.
