Sasson Gabai Nominated for Best Actor in Asian Film Competition

Winners, selected by an international jury, to be announced at an awards ceremony in Queensland, Australia on November 24.

Sasson Gabai, star of Boker Tov Adon Fidelman/ Restoration has been nominated for the Fifth Annual Asia Pacific Screen Awards in the category of Best Performance by an Actor.

The APSA was founded in 2007 as an initiative of the government of Queensland, Australia, in collaboration with UNESCO and the International Federation of Film Producers, to promote the movie industry in the Asia-Pacific region. This enormous area stretches from Egypt to the Cook Islands, and from Russia to New Zealand. It contains 60 percent of the worlds population, and produces half of all movies that are made.

The winners, selected by an international jury, will be announced at an awards ceremony in Queensland on November 24.

Boker Tov Adon Fidelman, whose English title is Restoration, was directed by Yossi Madmoni and written by Erez Kav-El. Gabai plays the eponymous character, who is forced to fight to save his furniture restoration workshop after his business partner dies.

Fidelmans son, played by Nevo Kimchi, wants to tear down the old building and build a new apartment complex in its stead. A young apprentice (Henry David) comes to the aid of the elder Fidelman. The film, which won the best film award at the Jerusalem International Film Festival and the award for best screenplay at the Sundance Film Festival, was produced by Chaim Sharir.

Mabul, an Israeli, French, German and Canadian co-production directed by Guy Nattiv and with an Israeli cast that includes Yakov Cohen and Ronit Elkabetz, was nominated for the Best Childrens Feature Film in the Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
