Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer will play the role of Superman's birth mother in the forthcoming Hollywood film, "Man of Steel." Directed by Zack Snyder, "Man of Steel" will bring the story of the beloved American comic hero to the screen yet again, with Henry Cavill playing the lead.

Filming has already begun, with the movie expected to hit the theaters in June 2013. According to Zurer's Israeli agent, Boaz Ben-Zion, the actress was already on the set yesterday.
Zurer is replacing Julia Ormond in the role of Lara Lor-Van, Superman's mother on the planet Krypton, after Ormond was dropped from the film for reasons unknown. Jor-El, Superman's father, is being played by Russell Crowe. Others appearing in the film include Kevin Costner, Amy Adams and Diane Lane.
The role is yet another step forward for Zurer, 42, who has lived for the past several years in the United States as she pursues her career in Hollywood. She has starred in several American films, including Steven Spielberg's "Munich," "Vantage Point," (in which she appeared with William Hurt, Forrest Whitaker, Dennis Quaid and Sigourney Weaver ) and "Angels and Demons," a $130 million film based on the book by Dan Brown, in which she starred alongside Tom Hanks.
