An Israel Defense Forces officer has been arrested on suspicion of sexually molesting dozens of girls and of harassing hundreds more on the internet over the course of six years, according to a gag order lifted on Thursday.
Eyal Nahum, 25, was arrested by special police forces in Tel Aviv after an eight-month investigation of his actions.
Nahum is suspected of convincing the girls to befriend him on the internet by pretending to be a high school student. During their online chats, Nahum allegedly taught the about sex and tried to lure them into meeting him.
A number of the girls in question were aged 10 to 14, and police are investigating whether any of those with whom he came into sexual contact were also underage – though they have evidence that he molested dozens over the age of 16.
Police also have evidence that some of the girls tried to cease their contacts with him, to which he allegedly responded by threatening to post naked pictures of them on the internet. Some of the photos the girls sent him and other Nahum allegedly doctored on photoshop.
Nahum will likely be charged with sexual harassment and engaging in sexual acts with minors, but not with rape.
