Softball / ISL / Pizzaleh Serves Up Win, Takes First

Pizzaleh continued their hot streak, and took sole possession of first place, with a 12-7 victory over the Meridian Tarpons in the Bonkers Old City Israel Softball League.

Yanky Guttman batted 5-for-5, with two triples and four runs batted in, while Moshe Ben-Yakir added three RBI for the league leaders.

Pizzaleh moved half a game ahead of Cafe Rimon and stayed one game in front of Kids of Courage and Lake Como Pizza in the tight race for the Holyland Series playoffs.

Yehuda Wolfset held the potent Milk and Cookies lineup to three runs, and helped his own cause with three hits and two RBI, earning the victory for Lake Como Pizza. Catcher Nathan Chapman made several snares of tough foul pops, and Michael Sultanik's leaping catch in deep center killed a Milk and Cookies rally.

Marc Richter powered the Lake Como offense with a double, a triple, and four RBI.

Abba Stein struck out five in a masterful performance, Daniel Levitin knocked in three runs, Mo Menzo batted 3 for 4, and Shmuel Lowinger had the game-winning RBI, as Copia moved into the thick of the playoff race.

Nosson Stein anchored the Copia defense at second base, and Eli Weiss made a number of leaping catches in left field.

In other action, Kids of Courage defeated Five Towns Jewish Times 14-12 while AJ topped Charedim 11-6.
