The Rolling Stones, one of the most successful rock acts in history, are set to perform in Israel, the production agency Marcel Avram confirmed on Sunday.

The company did not specify when or where the concert would be held.

The expected performance joins an impressive line-up of renowned musicians to have performed in Israel in recent months, including ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney and British pop group Depeche Mode.

Madonna and Leonard Cohen are also scheduled to perform in Israel in the coming months.

The Rolling Stones were founded in London, England over 45 years ago, and were, from their inception, heavily influenced by blues music.

The band's original line-up included front man Mick Jagger, guitarists Brian Jones and Keith Richards, keyboardist Ian Stewart, drummer Charlie Watts, and bass player Dick Taylor.

Taylor left shortly after the band was formed and replaced with Bill Wyman, who soon jettisoned as well.

Over the band's long and successful run it also saw the passing of Jones and Stewart, who were replaced with Mick Taylor and Ronnie Wood.
