Electric Car to Go on Sale in Israel in July

The Renault Fluence ZE is to cost NIS 123,000; Better Place to offer different service packages based on client's mileage.

Better Place has unveiled the price of the electric cars it will be selling in Israel, the Renault Fluence ZE: NIS 123,000. That's a hair more than gasoline-fueled cars of similar size.

Buyers can start placing orders in July and the cars should start arriving toward year-end.

Better Place, founded by ex-tech entrepreneur Shai Agassi, also revealed that initially it will be offering five service packages whose prices will depend on the client's mileage. Each package includes installation of a charging point at the client's home, unlimited battery replacements and unfettered access to Better Place charging points for four years.

The cheapest package is NIS 1,090 a month for up to 20,000 km a year, and the costliest is NIS 1,599 for 30,000 km a year. The company will also be offering a 3-year unlimited-mileage package for NIS 157,500.

It is true that the saving isn't great compared with the cost of gasoline for similar distances, but keep in mind that Better Place has to pay billions of shekels to build infrastructure.
