U.K. affirms support for a secure Israel

Britain is as committed now to a secure Israel as it was in 1917, Prime Minister Gordon Brown told the Israel Britain Commonwealth Association (IBCA) earlier this month. In a letter to mark the 90th anniversary of Britain's issuing of the Balfour Declaration, Brown said the commitment included a commitment to the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel. The ICBA annual Balfour Dinner, scheduled for November 5 at the Tel Aviv Hilton celebrates the document spelling out Britain's support for a Jewish "national home" in Palestine. "The relationship with Britain has seen many trials, but the spirit of the declaration endured," IBCA Chair Brenda Katten said this week. (Cnaan Liphshiz)
