Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein approved further investigation of Likud MK Oren Hazan on suspicion of assaulting public servants – Ariel mayor Eli Shaviro and municipality director-general Avi Ezer – late last year.

Hazan allegedly assaulted them after a heated argument. Police were called to the scene and collected testimony. Since the incident occurred, Hazan has become an MK, so the attorney general’s approval was required to continue the investigation against him.

Meanwhile, a report on Channel 10’s “HaTzinor” program on Tuesday quoted several former female employees of a Tel Aviv bar Hazan owned as saying he sexually harassed them and repeatedly tried to start sexual relationships with them. Hazan, who owned and managed the Fleisher Hotel bar while it was in operation in 2010-2011, was said by the former employees to have touched them against their wishes, made comments of a sexual nature to them and invited them to come up to his apartment over the bar. Hazan denies the claims.

Last week Hazan hired prominent attorney Zion Amir and threatened to sue Channel 2 and reporter Amit Segal over the recent report alleging that when Hazan ran the Gold Casino in the Bulgarian resort of Burgas, he arranged escort girls for his Israeli clients and also used hard drugs.

The day after the report, Hazan complained through his lawyer Avraham Keren that the report was slanderous, hurtful, defamatory and false and warned that he would take legal action.

Hazan said he never organized any events with escort girls and that he didn’t know why the report would rely on interviews with people in Bulgaria he had never met. As for the allegations of drug use, he said, “This is the worst thing imaginable and I have no idea who the person is who spoke so untruthfully with his voice distorted.”

Hazan is a deputy Knesset speaker and a member of the highest-level Knesset committees, including the Security and Foreign Affairs Committee and the Finance Committee.
