Vandals slashed the tires of Israel Defense Forces Colonel Yoav Yarom, commander of the Israel Defense Forces' Samaria Brigade while he was visiting the Yitzhar settlement on Sunday.

The incident took place while Yarom was conducting a tour with his replacement, Colonel Shai Kleper. The IDF said in a statement that "injury to IDF commanders and its soldiers who are busy day and night defending the residents of Israel is crossing a red line."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahi said, "We will act with zero tolerance against whoever harms IDF soldiers and their commanders. The assailants will pay for their criminal acts."

Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon said it is a "very severe incident that demands those responsible for it be treated in an uncompromising manner," adding mention of those who threw rocks at Border Police forces in recent days and hit an IDF officer's jeep. Ya'alon defined these acts as "terrorism, pure and simple," adding that the security establishment must uproot such phenomena and combat them fiercely.

"We will not allow a marginal, violent, extreme group take the law into their hands, disrupt our lives and threaten IDF commanders and soldiers. We will act against them with the full force of the law," Ya'alon said.

This is not the first time Colonel Yarom's tires have been slashed in Yitzhar. His tires were slashed in Yitzhar in January as well.
