Knesset members from the Likud and Habayit Hayehudi parties have marked out a new target for their attacks: U.S. President Barack Obama.

In an effort to tie the hands of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the MKs issued a warning Monday about accepting Obama’s demand for an immediate cease-fire. They also criticized the American administration’s policy of “abandoning the home front” when it comes to the State of Israel.

Deputy Minister Tzipi Hotovely (Likud) said: “Israel must reject Obama’s cease-fire proposal. The American proposal exclusively serves Hamas’ interests. For the first time in many years, the vast majority of the Israeli public supports continuing the operation, and the Israeli government must change the rules of the game in the Gaza Strip and defeat Hamas.”

Added fellow party member Danny Danon: “We need a cessation in the fire coming from Obama and the administration in Washington. Just as the United States fights against the Taliban with determination, we must continue striking Hamas and destroying the tunnel infrastructure.”

For her part, MK Orit Strock of Habayit Hayehudi declared: “The tunnels and their shafts are not the only thing Operation Protective Edge has exposed. It has also exposed the true face of those who are supposedly our friends. When President Obama and his secretary of state, Kerry, stand time and again at the side the Islamist axis of evil – they completely lose their status of ‘fair arbiters’ in the conflict.”

Strock's party colleague MK Yoni Chetboun added: “The American administration, which sowed death and devastation throughout the world over the past decade, is the last one that can demand a cease-fire of Israel. Israel must defeat Hamas and protect its citizens.”
