Brief blackouts occurred across Israel on Friday due a technical hitch at a power plant in Ashkelon.

The Israel Electric Corporation was forced to temporarily disconnect customers from the power grid due to the malfunction. An estimated 10 percent of consumers, primarily in Israel's south, were cut off from electricity for periods of up to 15 minutes.

The exact nature of the technical issue was not immediately clear.

Less than two weeks ago, a problem with the transmission of gas to the power plant at Gezer caused power outages nationwide.
