A 19-year-old Palestinian woman was shot in Hebron on Tuesday morning after she tried to stab a soldier. Hadeel al-Hashlamun, a 19-year-old student, later succumbed to her wounds at the hospital, a family member said.
None of the soldiers were harmed in the incident, which took place at the "Kikar Hashoter" checkpoint.
The army said that the attacker was shot in the legs, but later reported that she was taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Jerusalem in critical condition.
A preliminary probe of the incident conducted by the Judea Regional Brigade commander said that a metal detector went off when the Palestinian women walked through the checkpoint.
According to the initial report, the soldiers called on her to stop and fired a few warning rounds toward the ground after she refused. Then, the soldiers claim she pulled out a knife, and that's when they fired shots at her legs. The soldiers said they opened fire for a second time after the woman tried again to raise the knife.
Photos published in Palestinian outlets show the Palestinian woman kneeling and a soldier aiming his rifle at her. The IDF claims that the woman had yet to pull out the knife at this point.
