Pop singer Katy Perry is camping it up again – not as a geisha this time, but as a fictional ninth-rate Jewish comedian named Yosef Shulem the MC, Salon reported Tuesday.
- Katy Perry's father criticized by ADL for 'anti-Semitic sermon'
- Muslims slam Katy Perry video as 'blasphemous'
- Katy Perry visits Auschwitz, says 'My heart was heavy today'
"Did you hear the one about the rabbi who did free circumcisions? He only did it for tips," says the guffawing Perry/Shulem in the trailer to her new music video, which features a line-up of allegedly comic characters. As Shulem, Perry is made up to look pasty-faced and wears a kinky brown wig, thick eyebrows and moustache.
"I do bar mitzvahs, weddings, I don't do funerals for a price, I'll do your funeral," says Perry in a broad East Coast accent.
Offensive? Maybe. Intentionally so? Also maybe, considering what Perry's father, Keith Hudson, an evangelist preacher, told hundreds of worshippers, according to various reports, at the start of 2012..
“You know how to make the Jew jealous?" he said at the Church on the Rise, a nondenominational church in Westlake, Ohio. "Have some money, honey. You go to L.A. and they own all the Rolex and diamond places. Walk down a part of L.A. where we live and it is so rich it smells. You ever smell rich? They are all Jews, hallelujah! Amen."
Do we have a great father-and-daughter act here or don't we?
