An indictment has been issued against another soldier serving at the Hatzerim Air Force base for the rape of two female soldiers, one in April, and the other last November. Five soldiers at the base have now been charged in the rape scandal.

The soldier will remain in custody until the end of legal proceedings.

The IDF court in Jaffa will receive an amended indictment, which adds charges against another soldier, D., who is considered to be the central figure in the rape scandal at the base.

He is charged with rape, inappropriate conduct, invasion of privacy, destruction of evidence, failure to cooperate with an investigation and obstruction of justice. D. has a criminal history of sexual assault from two years ago, although according to his defense lawyers, those actions did not lead to conviction in court.

According to the indictment, D. raped and assaulted a female soldier and suggested to others that they watch. D. has also been charged with participating in rape and assault in the presence of another soldier, A., who was also indicted last Thursday on charges of rape, assault and obstruction of justice.

A. will also remain in custody until the end of proceedings. Two other soldiers have also been charged with other sexual offenses as well as obstruction of justice and invasion of privacy.

After the rape scandal was uncovered, another soldier filed a complaint against D., also for rape, which she said took place in November 2014. The soldier only recently came forward, after hearing of the other suspicions against D. Following her testimony, another soldier was indicted – bringing the total to five – for interfering with the investigation.

The defense attorney for the soldier most recently indicted said “our client continues to deny the allegations against him. At this point, we will study the materials and respond to the indictment in court.”
