A physician from the Sharon region was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of sexually assaulting minors after he tried to arrange a “date” in an Internet chat room with a person he believed to be a 13-year-old girl.

The doctor’s chat partner was in fact a self-described “pedophile hunter” named Avi Dubitzky, who according to the Hebrew daily Maariv submitted around 200 police complaints last year in similar circumstances that resulted in about 20 indictments.

Dubitzky said that when he posed as a 13-year-old girl in a Walla! chat room on Yom Kippur, the suspect identified himself as “a cute doctor of about 45.”

“When he asked me ‘How old are you?’ and ‘Do you have a boyfriend?,’ I realized I was dealing with an experienced person,” Dubitzky said. He said the conversation, which continued over a text messaging app, took on a sexual tone and that the doctor tried to meet the “girl” in real life.

A police spokesman said external hard drives were removed from the suspect’s home and medical office.

Police officials said reasonable suspicion exists that the suspect, who is around 60, contacted actual girls on the Internet and may have molested them.
