The police said this week they’re trying to figure out the source of the 20 million Iranian rials ($720) discovered in a car search after three Jerusalem residents were suspected of taking part in a break-in. The three declined to say where the money came from and were taken in for questioning.

The police are thus awaiting a theft complaint that could explain the source of the cash. Even though the sum is relatively small, the police informed the Shin Bet security service.
The police and Shin Bet are trying to determine if the money represents Iranian financial support for a group or person, or if it was simply stolen from someone leery about filing a complaint.
The police have declined to name the three suspects but said they had a lead that might reveal the source of the money.
