After a few days of spring-like sunshine, winter is returning with a bang. Forecasts call for a stormy weekend, with snowfall a possibility in hilly parts of the north and also in Jerusalem.
Rain will begin today in the north and then, toward evening, is due to spread to the central and southern areas. Tomorrow, rain is expected to fall mostly in the northern and central areas; there should be strong winds and possibly hail. Snowfall could start in the afternoon hours in the Galilee, Golan Heights and also the Jerusalem area.
Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski announced yesterday that should snow fall tomorrow city schools will shut down on Sunday. The mayor's announcement came as forecasts suggested the possibility of an accumulation of 15 centimeters of snow in the city.
Yesterday the Jerusalem Municipality prepared some 100 vehicles for use in snow removal, which is to focus on 350 essential roads in the capital. Jerusalem officials also suggested that residents let their hot water taps drip slightly in the event of snow, to prevent pipes from exploding.
Sunday morning could see continued snow in hilly areas, and rain elsewhere in the country.
