It is very much American tradition to never speak I'll of your political opposition when on foreign soil. I think he was able to say a lot considering his limitations.

Even at that time in a place like South Africa with all the bad things that were being perpetrated in Soweto & Katlehong e.g. there was an awareness that others were picking up after them. For all their studying the United States presidents & United States presidential candidates maybe they spend the whole day in the little boys room as people like Andy Capustagno likes to call it( the reason why "ordinary"woman could never succeed in business or politics). The children like Michael Jackson were much more proactive way back in the 1960's, and mature in their conversation.
