Netanyahu's hysteria appears to be of a political nature, in hope that it would intimidate Iran from acting in support of Syria because it needs to prepare against Israeli attack. Iran would long have seen through this hogwash. On the home front, threatening war and all the suffering from it appears to be a cheap means to deter attention from the increasing dissatisfaction of young adults in Israel who can't make ends meet anymore because of insufficient and too expensive real estate - the beginning of an Israeli spring which might well sweep Netanyahu and Barak away.
