Ingathering of the Exiles, the Cookbook

Two Israeli artists took their cameras into the kitchens of an immigrant neighborhood in Holon to document the preparation of dishes from many culinary traditions.

A tired-looking man wearing thick glasses stands in the kitchen of a public housing apartment, preparing an omelet with tomatoes and chives. One camera films the work surface and stovetop, the second points straight at the man who is cooking and talking. The camera angles do not change, nor does the monotonous tone of voice. The hands chop onions and beat eggs.
