Great pleasure can be derived from reaching the soft interior of the prickly artichoke. Just don’t buy it frozen and wrapped in plastic.
Like the sabra, fruit of the prickly pear cactus, the soft flesh of the artichoke also hides behind a thorny covering. The satisfaction of eating it stems, to a large extent, from the joy of discovery and exposure, not only from its unique taste.
