Hannukah: Living on a miracle
This is the one user-friendly and easy Jewish festival, perhaps the only uncontroversial event on our calendar. I wouldn't deny my children Hanukkah, but sometimes I feel we are too much in love with the miracle.
I doubt many of the millions of people who will be lighting the first Hanukkah candle Satuday night really mind that they are commemorating an event that probably never happened. After all, when compared to some other religious rituals, the festival of lights with all its kiddy-oriented activities of dreidel-playing and latke-eating is so inoffensive.
