Effie Been celebrated his 90th birthday while playing in the January Monthly Medal at the Gaash Golf Club on Tuesday. Born in Rustenberg, South Africa in 1922 and coming to Israel in 1963, Effie plays golf at least five times a week at Gaash. Been started playing golf when he was 19, winning many tournaments and scoring seven holes in one - the most recent last year. Amos Aharoni won the A division of the Monthly Medal, played in rough weather, with a net 72. He was followed by Steve Taylor on net 74. The B division was won by Colin Froman on net 70. Assaf Lengy was second on net 71. Chen Dagan continued his good form by winning the C division on net 73, followed by Meyer Iny on net 75. (Shmulik Futeran )
Lawn bowler follows husband's novice featThe finals of the annual Novices and Seniors competitions took place last weekend at Savyon. The Novices caters for players with less than three years' experience, while the Seniors competition is for players over the age of 65. Ramat Gan's Karni Amit was thrilled to win the Novices trophy, to match the trophy won by her husband, Gil, last year. Amit won her final 21-11 against Savyon's Shosh Rothberg. The men's Novices was won by Ra'anana's Shalom Ben-Ami, who beat Haifa's Yigal Lerman 21-9. The Seniors' was a Ramat Gan clash between Rami Oron and Israel Zifrot, with Oron winning 21-19.
