The Israel, Britain and the Commonwealth Association is taking a break from its usual format of luncheon meetings at a Tel Aviv hotel in favor of a evening event. Colonel (ret.) Miri Eisen, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's spokesperson, will be the guest speaker at IBCA's next event at the Daniel Hotel in Herzliya Pituah on Thursday at 8 P.M. The former senior IDF intelligence officer, who was born in California, is now considered one of the country's most articulate spokespeople, says IBCA chair Brenda Katten. Two American immigrants will be representing Israel next month at an international law school competition in Washington, D.C. Former New Yorkers Efrat Hakak and Yael Bitton, third-year law students at Hebrew University, are among the five Israelis who have been selected to compete in the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, an annual competition sponsored by the International Law Students Association. The Hebrew University team was selected after a qualifying round at Tel Aviv University this week, in which they debated a fictional case before three mock judges representing the International Court of Justice. The prestigious competition draws law students from around the world. (Daphna Berman)
