Lawyers offer free housing advice to baffled English-speaking immigrants

When & where is the free housing advice given ?

I think it is important to note that these same issues rise between Israeli tenants and landlords, and the immigrants should know that unfortunately, in this country there are no real rules and regulations that are enforced against landlords, and I have been screwed over by this a couple of times, even if I checked the contract, had legal advice and what not...So there is a problem with this in general, until some regulation and enforcement will be put in place regarding landlords...I am Israeli and finally got fed up, and am in small claims court for over 2 years now, because the person I am suing left the country and is avoiding this and probably other people he owes money to due to apartment scams... My point is, reassure the immigrants that it isn't because they are dupes, it is b/c Israeli landlords are given free rain, and us renters have to pay for it all literally and metaphorically. I can tell you my horror stories of the past 5 years renting in Tel Aviv...but I am sure you have heard them all (and mind you, I grew up in Tel Aviv with a single mom who had been renting, and 5 years ago had to leave the city because she couldn't afford it anymore - my mom, a born and native of this city, had to move out at the age of 60 due to this atrocious situation - this doesn't even happen in NYC or Paris!).

I'd add another item to that checklist. "Check that the building is legally inhabitable". I moved into a newly renovated building only to find out afterwards that it was ot legally recognised as complete. Apparently Tel Aviv city council requires that a building have "Form 4" signed before tenants can move in. This was not the case for our building and our landlords neglected to tell us. As a result, the electric copany was not obliged to provide full power and we were forced to endure 4 months of power cuts (up to 20 a day) until Form 4 was finally signed off and the electric company started providing sufficient power for the building.
