Quarterback Adi Hakami connected with Jonathan Curran on a 38-yard touchdown pass to power the Tel Aviv/Jaffa Sabres past the Tel Aviv Pioneers 44-42 in Israel Bowl V, held last Friday at Kraft Stadium in Jerusalem.

With the victory, the Sabres became the first Israel Football League team to win two titles.

Hakami threw for 150 yards and three touchdowns, but also two interceptions − one for a touchdown return early in the game to cut the Sabres’ lead to 14-8. From that point on, no team ever led by more than eight points.

The Pioneers put up a much better fight than in their last regular season meeting, taking leads of 22-14 and 28-20 behind the running of Ilan Bielas. However, the Pioneers paid for missing a two-point conversion after their last touchdown with 7:42 to play, allowing for the Sabres’ final comeback.
