Shakespeare and the Jewish question
Dr. Pamela Peled, a lecturer in Shakespearean studies, will embark on Tuesday on a lecture series in Ra'anana about the English playwright's alleged anti-Semitism. In three lectures, Peled will address the rampant anti-Semitism in early modern England and how Shakespeare tapped into it. "We need to ask ourselves whether he an anti-Semite too, or whether he turned the stereotype on its head," Peled says. Tickets for a single lecture cost NIS 80. For more information and to book call ESRA's Ra'anana office (08:30-12:30) at 09-7482957. (Cnaan Liphshiz)

British olim peddle for MD charity
A charity bike ride to the Kinneret yesterday raised NIS 350,000 for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research. The 75-kilometer bike ride, organized by British immigrants, was in support of the Gavriel Meir Trust, established six months ago in honor of a five-year-old year old London boy who was diagnosed with the muscle wasting disease. Funds raised from the bike ride, which began at the Snir Valley and drew some 90 participants, will go toward funding critical research projects aimed at identifying a cure, as well as effective treatments, for the fatal disease. For more information or to donate, contact info@thegmtrust.org. (Daphna Berman)
