David Friedman, Trump's Nominee for Israel Ambassador, Skewered in New 'Shabbos Table Guy' Meme

'Shabbos Table Guy' is featured in a new anonymous blog that insists that Friedman was not its inspiration and is geared toward young liberal Jews who regularly argue around family Friday night dinner tables with their conservative relatives.

The right-wing views of David Friedman, whose confirmation hearing as U.S. ambassador to Israel began last week and will be voted on shortly, has provided grist for a series of internet memes with images of Friedman featured on a new blog called “Shabbos Table Guy.”

The anonymously authored blog takes sharp aim at a certain Orthodox Republican brand of Jewish American, some of whom like Friedman hail from Long Island, though the blog’s introduction insists he was “NOT the inspiration” for the page and the use of his image is a “complete coincidence.”

"You know #ShabbosTableGuy because he's been at your Shabbos meals for years. He's 30% dad jokes, 35% Jewish exceptionalism, 25% sexism, 10% racism and 100% certain of his own opinions! It is a complete coincidence that #ShabbosTableGuy looks a lot like the OG #ShabbosTableGuy David Friedman. He was definitely NOT the inspiration for this page," the introduction states.

The jokes are clearly aimed at young liberal Jews who regularly argue around family Friday night dinner tables and post-synagogue Saturday lunches with their Trump-supporting fathers, uncles, grandfathers and family friends.

The memes skewer “#ShabbosTableGuy” on topics ranging from domestic politics to Israeli politics to gender inequality both general and specific to Orthodox Judaism.
