Abu Ghosh may be best known for its hummus but twice a year, vocal-music lovers flock to the town on the hills just north of Jerusalem for a music festival that takes place there every fall and spring.

This Sukkot, the Abu Ghosh Vocal Music Festival runs from Friday, October 5 through Monday, October 8, featuring leading Israeli and international musicians. Performances include everything from a cappella spirituals, gypsy music, and contemporary hits to traditional Sardinian and Sicilian folk songs and romantic classics by the likes of Mendelssohn and Chopin.

Music aside, one of the main draws of the festival is the striking setting. Visitors can enjoy atmospheric concerts in one of two unique venues – the 12th century Benedictine Monastery in the center of Abu Ghosh and the Kiryat Ye'arim Church, high on a hill overlooking the ancient town.
