The Jewish holidays are quickly creeping up on us, bringing with them lots of praying and repentance (for some), eating then fasting (for most) and, of course, quality time with the family. Ah, family – that bunch who knows you best and also knows how best to push your buttons.

To get you in the mood for concentrated stints with your respective clans, the Jerusalem Cinematheque has lined up a special double-feature for tomorrow, Friday, August 30.

For just NIS 25, you get to watch Wes Anderson’s 2001 flick “The Royal Tenenbaums” and John Hughes’ 1984 classic “Sixteen Candles” back-to-back.

If you haven’t seen the two movies (for shame!), Anderson’s features an all-star cast (Gene Hackman, Anjelica Huston, Owen and Luke Wilson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Stiller and others) and focuses on a family reunion of oddballs and former child prodigies. Hughes’ film, meanwhile, is a prime '80s coming-of-age film starring Molly Ringwald as Samantha Baker, a teen whose 16th birthday gets overshadowed by her sister’s impending nuptials.

The screenings will take place outdoors, on the Cinematheque lawn, starting at 9 P.M. (“Tenenbaums” screens first) and continuing until 1 A.M. There’s popcorn to munch on and cool beers to swig – all under the Jerusalem night sky. If that’s not enough, chances are you’ll leave there thinking your own family’s not half bad.

Address: 11 Hebron Rd., Jerusalem
