Bolton chairman Phil Gartside has stepped up his fight to keep Israel international defender Tal Ben Haim at The Reebok Stadium. After Chelsea's offer for the player came in well below the club's asking price, Gartside said yesterday that he would make Ben Haim an "offer he cannot refuse." Ben Haim has six months remaining on the contract he signed when he joined the club from Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2004 and has so far refused Bolton's overtures for a new deal. Bolton manager Sam Allardyce is keen to tie the 24-year-old down and Gartside said yesterday: "We've been talking to Tal for quite a while. We'll make him an offer he cannot refuse."
