Savyon's Haviv Takin pulled his team from the brink of defeat to win the national mixed triples title. More than once, in Houdini-like style, and well supported by Pnina Gelbgisser and Shraga Avner, he frustrated the Ra'anana trio of Colin Silberstein, Roy Jennings and Denny Galland. The latter, however, were by no means outbowled in a bowl-for-bowl cliff-hanger.
Ra'anana won the first seven-end set 7-1, with two saving shots by Silberstein. In the second set both skips had excellent conversion shots for peels at 4-all with the seventh last end to be played. Galland lay six inches behind the jack for the match-winning shot, when Takin then delivered the "bowl of the game," by-passing blockers for a perfect "chop-and-lie," to level the sets and force a three-end tiebreaker.
In the first end Galland removed Avner's bowl from the jack, with Jennings drawing another for a two-count. Again, with a last bowl run into the head, Takin ended up with the lying shot, for the first end win. In the second end, Jennings drew his bowl onto the jack only for Takin once again to be dead on target for the winning shot and match.
