On Friday morning, flooding in the Negev caused a bus to turn over. It was carrying some 50 Israeli Arabs from East Jerusalem on a visit to the Negev. The accident occurred when the vehicle tried to cross a flooded area around the Tze'elim River. Eight passengers were injured but not seriously and were taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem for treatment.
One policeman on the scene said: "I saw the bus enter the flooded area. For some reason the driver decided to overtake a truck that was moving slowly in front of it. Unfortunately, my fear that the bus would turn over proved correct."
Despite last week's heavy rains, Ashdod was the only area where rainfall in early December exceeded the average for the period. In Tel Aviv, December precipitation so far has been 55 percent of the average; in Jerusalem it is 49 percent, and in the Upper Galilee 39 percent.
