The landing gear on the El Al flight that had to return to Israel after takeoff and make an emergency landing on May 22 was apparently damaged during a routine overhaul of the plane in Singapore, an initial probe has found.
The results of the investigation were announced yesterday by the Transportation Ministry's chief air accident investigator, Yitzhak Raz.
Though the assessment is that the problem was confined to this specific Boeing 777, planes all over the world will be examined.
The investigation is to be completed in two weeks at the Singapore facility in conjunction with representatives from the US National Transportation Safety Board, the US Federal Aviation Administration and Boeing.
Flight 027's malfunction was discovered when pilots tried to retract the wheels after takeoff and the left wheels did not lock into place.
